About Bissikrima-Kabala

Bissikrima-Kabala is inspired by a historic West African village once known as a crossroads of cultures, commerce, and ideas. Traders, artisans, and families gathered weekly to exchange goods, stories, and opportunity.

Today, Bissikrima-Kabala carries that same spirit forward—connecting women artisans in West Africa with fair markets in the United States, and transforming traditional craftsmanship into sustainable livelihoods.

What is Bissikrima Kabala?

Bissikrima-Kabala LLC is a women-owned, for-profit cultural fashion business registered and operating in the United States. The company designs and sells African-inspired hats and apparel that blend heritage craftsmanship with contemporary style for the U.S. consumer market.

The business currently generates revenue through direct-to-consumer sales and is positioned to scale through wholesale and national retail partnerships. Bissikrima-Kabala operates with a strong social impact ethos embedded in its product, sourcing, and brand story, while maintaining a revenue-first, growth-oriented business model.

How does Bissikrima Kabala support artisans?

Social impact is fundamental to Bissikrima-Kabala’s business model and brand identity. The company integrates impact through:

  • Ethical sourcing and fair participation of women producers and suppliers
  • Elevating cultural heritage as a viable economic asset
  • Creating income opportunities through demand-driven production

Impact is achieved through business growth, not charitable spending. As revenue increases, the business strengthens its ability to support women-centered supply chains and culturally rooted production.

Founder & Leadership

Jamila Kader founded Bissikrima-Kabala, LLC.

Rooted in the historic trading village of Bissikrima-Kabala, a crossroads of cultures, commerce, and resilience, my work is guided by nearly two decades of experience across for profit organizations and international nonprofit organizations in West and East Africa and the United States.

My background spans global development initiatives, U.S. national programs supporting quality childcare, and academic work as a university teaching assistant—bridging community knowledge, policy, and education.

Through Bissikrima-Kabala, I partner with women artisans in West Africa to revive the spirit of equitable trade by building sustainable micro-economies, creating fair market access in the U.S., and preserving cultural heritage through craftsmanship.

Discover the Legacy of Bissikrima Kabala

Bissikrima Kabala is more than just a name; it embodies the rich history of a village in Guinea’s Fouta Djallon region. This historic crossroads was once a vibrant hub where the Fulani, Mandingo, and international merchants exchanged not only goods but also culture and ideas. Today, the village’s Sunday market continues to thrive, attracting traders from Guinea, Senegal, Mali, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and beyond. Inspired by this legacy, Bissikrima Kabala in the U.S. aims to celebrate African craftsmanship, connect cultures through fashion, and create a meaningful economic and social impact. What once traveled by rail and caravan now journeys through storytelling, style, and purpose.
